Catie first discovered amateur massage techniques while giving mini massages in chorus classes back in high school, a passion sparked for helping others reduce tension with comfortable pressures. This passion developed as she worked on friends and family members occasionally over the years and discovered that not only could she reduce their tension, but could also help alleviate some of their pain!
Working in the very fast-paced environment of the corporate world for over 17 years provided Catie with a wide variety of experiences. Over time, however, finding ways to distress and addressing her own self-care became a challenge. Seeking and learning more about personal nutrition & health, trying and applying these applications, eventually led Catie to make a career change. This deliberation and reflection on her interests re-sparked Catie's passion for massage.
Through a careful and thorough search for schools of massage, Catie discovered Cohutta Healing Arts Institute (CHAI). On top of giving their students over 50% of the state required hours of education, She learned many things about herself, even more eye-opening experiences, and surprisingly had quite a few theories she had of health and wellness confirmed.
Among some of the things the educators at CHAI
helped her understand better were:
1) Maintaining stress level is not only beneficial but vital
to one's overall health.
2) Massage is a whole lot more than just "fluff", it's about taking care of yourself--it can have some of the effects
mild exercise has on the body!
3) Massage can help the recipient heal themselves, but it is an on-going progress—it doesn't happen all in one session. Oh no, does this mean MORE massages? However will someone survive that??
Therapeutic work has become a large passion of hers. It goes beyond relieving muscle tension; it can really get to the root of dysfunction and pain issues with a wide variety of methods that can be applied and a combination thereof!
Therapeutic massage typically has quicker results when applied with deeper pressure, which is not always comfortable for everyone. However, there are approaches to also make the session relaxing. Then there are times one just needs a good old fashioned relaxing Swedish massage.
